Ashbourne Road over Branch of Tookany Creek Bridge Rehabilitation

Project Location

Overview

The bridge carrying Ashbourne Road (Route 2025) over a branch of the Tookany Creek in Cheltenham Township is one of seven structures in Bridge Group P (MPMS 102320). The bridge is a brick arch single-span structure that was constructed in 1910. The rehabilitation includes the removal of earthen fill over the arch, reconstruction of spandrel walls, wing walls, and arch barrel ring stones as needed, reconstruction of parapet walls with concrete walls with stone facing, cleaning and repointing of walls, parapets, substructure units, and brick arch barrel, and utilities will be relocated into a utility bay section over the arch-topped full depth pavement. The improvements to this bridge will strengthen and restore the structure to good condition while having minimal impact on the bridge's appearance and aesthetic. Construction staging and access will be from the roadway and from temporary construction easements. All traffic will be detoured during construction.
