Work Continues Next Week at Centerville Road Interchange Improvement Project in E. Hempfield Township, Lancaster County

07/07/2023

Nighttime traffic restrictions will be in place

Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that work continues next week at the Centerville Road Interchange Improvement Project in East Hempfield Township, Lancaster County.

Here is the proposed schedule and expected traffic impacts:

Monday night, July 10, the Contractor will close the right lane on Eastbound Route 30 to remove barrier at the start of the off ramp to Centerville Road and reset it at the top of the ramp. Barrier also will be removed from the on-ramp from Centerville Road to Eastbound Route 30, placing the ramp back to its normal configuration. There will be a lane closure and flagging on Centerville Road in the area of the interchange with traffic signals on flash, so barrier can be set at the top of the eastbound off ramp and tying into the existing bridge. This work will be done from 7:30 PM Monday to 6:00 AM Tuesday.

Tuesday night, July 11, the Contractor will set barrier and close the existing on-ramp from Centerville Road to Westbound Route 30 and shift ramp traffic onto the new temporary ramp. During this work there will be flagging on Centerville Road at the interchange area with the traffic signals on flash. The Contractor will also be working on getting the temporary signals ready. This work will be from 7:00 PM Tuesday to 6:00 AM Wednesday.

Wednesday night, July 12, a lane closure with flagging will be in place from the interchange north to Estelle Drive to shift traffic to the west side of Centerville Road. Temporary traffic signals are expected to be activated. This work will be from 7:00 PM Wednesday to 6:00 AM Thursday.

Thursday night, July 13, the contractor will close the right lane of Westbound Route 30 to remove and reset barrier. The existing off ramp from Westbound Route 30 to Centerville Road will be closed and a temporary off-ramp will open. Rolling stops could be encountered while the existing ramp is closed and the temporary ramp is opened. There will be flagging on Centerville Road at the interchange. Barrier will be set on the west side of Centerville Road from the interchange to Estelle Drive. This work will be done from 7:30 PM Thursday to 6:00 AM Friday.

Motorists are advised to use alternate routes, as delays are expected. Motorists are also advised to expect daily changing traffic configurations. This work is weather dependent.

This work is part of the Centerville Road Interchange Improvement project, which consists of structure replacement, Superpave overlay, base replacement, roadway widening, milling, guiderail improvements, drainage improvements, pavement markings, ADA improvements, traffic signal improvements, and other miscellaneous construction. The project includes work on Centerville Road from Cornerstone Drive to Marietta Avenue (Route 23), and Marietta Avenue from Centerville Road to Stony Battery Road.

JD Eckman, Inc., of Atglen, PA is the prime contractor on this $36.3 million project. Work is expected to be completed by July 22, 2025.
