PennDOT Announces an Online Plans Display for Resurfacing and Culvert Replacement on Route 86 in Crawford County

01/11/2024

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) invites the public to view a virtual plans display for the project to repave Route 86 (Route 886) in Crawford County.

The project will include resurfacing approximately 8.5 miles of Route 86 from Oak Street in the City of Meadville to Henry Road in Cambridge Springs Township. Work will also include drainage and guiderail updates, shoulder backup, side road and driveway adjustments as needed and select tree trimming.

Additionally, there will be a replacement of a box culvert located on Route 86 between the intersection with of Morris Road and the intersection with Craig Road near The Country Club of Meadville in Woodcock Township. The box culvert will be replaced with a 30-inch pipe.

Work is expected to occur during the 2024 construction season.

Route 886 is expected to be closed for approximately five days during the replacement of the culvert. A 9.4-mile detour will be posted using Route 27, Park Avenue (Route 1001), Route 322, Route 6, and Route 198.

During the portion of the project, traffic will be restricted to one lane controlled by flaggers.

The plans display for the Route 86 Paving Project, which will be held online only, includes a handout and an online comment form. It will be open until January 26, 2024, and can be accessed by visiting the PennDOT District 1 website, www.penndot.pa.gov/District1 under the Design and Construction Projects link.

Those unable to access the study online may give feedback by contacting PennDOT Project Manager Jon Wilson at jonwilson@pa.gov or 814-678-7094.

The purpose of the public comment period is to introduce the project and receive public input regarding any questions or concerns with the project. It is also an opportunity for the public to review and comment on the project's potential effect upon Cultural Resources pursuant to the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation's 36 CFR Part 800 regulations implementing Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act.

The project documents will be made available in alternative languages or formats if requested. If you need translation/interpretation services or have special needs or have special concerns that require individual attention, contact Jon Wilson, PennDOT Project Manager at jonwilson@pa.gov or 814-678-7094.
