PennDOT to Partner with State College Borough on West Park Avenue Utility Work

04/27/2023

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will partner soon with the State College Borough to address some utility concerns along West Park Avenue (Route 3007). This collaboration will feature repairs to a storm sewer pipe as well as repairs to the sanitary sewer system.

Starting May 8 and continuing as late as May 19, West Park Avenue will be closed between North Atherton Street and North Allen Street. A detour will be in place directing drivers as follows:

Northbound drivers will use University Drive, East College Avenue, and North Atherton Street.

Southbound drivers will use North Atherton Street, East Beaver Avenue, and University Drive.

North Allen Street will remain open and will be accessible from East Park Avenue to Penn State main campus and the East College Heights neighborhood.

Motorists will need to remain alert for stopped or slowed traffic as they travel through the detour. This area sees a high volume of traffic, so motorists should expect travel delays and will need to be patient. Signage will be in place to direct drivers along the detour.

This work is expected to be complete before May 19, but all work is weather dependent. Traffic travelling around the Park Avenue closure after May 15, could also be impacted by a short local eastbound detour on the Atherton Street project.

During this partnership effort, PennDOT will provide traffic control and roadway restoration work for the pipe replacement, while State College Borough will replace the storm sewer pipe and their sanitary sewer line and replace the curbing along Park Avenue.

Motorists are encouraged to "Know Before They Go" by checking conditions on more than 40,000 roadway miles by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information, and access to more than 1,000 traffic cameras.

511PA is also available through a smartphone application for iPhone and Android devices, by calling 5-1-1, or by following regional Twitter alerts accessible on the 511PA website.
