Clearfield, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that it has removed long-term traffic control measures on its Atherton Street (Route 3014) project, which stretches from Curtin Road to just north of Westerly Parkway in State College. The contractor will complete work remaining in the 2023 construction season under daylight flagging conditions, and PennDOT expects that work to wrap up by the end of November.

To minimize traffic impacts for those traveling over the Thanksgiving holiday, the contractor will only work Monday, November 20, and Tuesday, November 21. Crews will be working in the following locations over those two days. 

• Two crews will pour sidewalk and backfill with topsoil between West Prospect Avenue and West Irvin Lane.
• One crew will install signage between College and Logan avenues, while another will plant trees and roadside vegetation between College and Beaver avenues.

PennDOT anticipates work to upgrade traffic signals and highway lighting occurring intermittently over the winter months and will issue updates on traffic impacts as needed. 

PennDOT also urges motorists to pay attention to work zones and directional signage to enhance safety and keep traffic moving efficiently.

Overall work on the project includes roadway reconstruction, drainage improvements that include pipes and inlets, water and sewer lines, concrete curbing, sidewalks and detectable warning surfaces, pavement markings, traffic signals and supports, and miscellaneous items.

HRI, Inc. of State College is the contractor on this $30.7 million project. PennDOT anticipates the contractor completing the project in the fall of 2024, but all work is weather and schedule dependent.
