Wellsboro Driver License Center to Close April 5 for Renovations

Wellsboro, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that its Driver License Center located at 40 Plaza Lane in Wellsboro will be closed for facility renovations on Friday, April 5, 2024, and Saturday, April 6, 2024. This closure will impact photo services only. The site will reopen on Wednesday, April 10, 2024.

 “Part of the overall customer experience at our PennDOT Driver License Center is the appearance of the facility itself," said PennDOT Deputy Secretary for Driver and Vehicle Services Kara Templeton. “These facility improvements will benefit our customers' overall experience when visiting, with added benefits that improve both the accessibility and efficiency of our services." 

 The work being completed at the Wellsboro Driver License Center includes new flooring, signage, and general maintenance. Additionally, PennDOT will be installing new customer service counters, customer counter seating, and eye-testing machines to better serve our customers.

 During the closure, customers may visit the following alternate locations for photo services:

  • Coudersport Driver License Center, 1 South Main Street, Coudersport, PA 16915
    • Photo licensing hours: Tuesday, Wednesdays, and Saturdays from 8:30 AM – 4:15 PM. Due to the Wellsboro closure, PennDOT will be opening Coudersport for an additional photo license service day on Friday, April 5 from 8:30 AM – 4:15 PM
  • Monroeton Driver License Center, 60 Chiola Lane, Suite 101, Towanda, PA 18848
    • Hours: Thursdays – Saturdays from 8:30 AM – 4:15 PM
  • Williamsport Driver License Center, 1782 East Third Street, Williamsport, PA 17701
    • Hours: Tuesdays – Thursdays from 8:30 AM – 4:15 PM
  • Laporte Photo License Center, Maple at Main Street, Laporte, PA 18626
    • Hours: Fridays and Saturdays from 8:30 AM – 4:15 PM

Upon reopening, Wellsboro will resume its normal operating hours of Wednesdays from 8:30 AM – 3:15 PM for driver licensing services and Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 8:30 AM – 4:15 PM for photo services.

 Driver and vehicle online services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week and include driver's license, photo ID and vehicle registration renewals; driver-history services; changes of address; driver license and vehicle registration restoration letters; ability to pay driver license or vehicle insurance restoration fee; driver license and photo ID duplicates; REAL ID pre-verification; and driver exam scheduling. There are no additional fees for using online services.

 Motorists can check conditions on major roadways by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 1,000 traffic cameras. 511PA is also available through a smartphone application for iPhone and Android devices, by calling 5-1-1, or by following regional alerts on X.
