PennDOT Announces an Online Plans Display for the SR 374, Section 553, over the Outlet of Lowe Lake Bridge Replacement Project in Herrick Township, Susquehanna County

02/24/2023

Dunmore, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) invites the public to a plans display regarding the SR 374, Section 553, Bridge Replacement Project over the Outlet of Lowe Lake. This plans display will be held online, and plans will be displayed for public viewing at the Herrick Township Municipal Building.

The purpose of the project is to provide a sustainable crossing over the Outlet of Lowe Lake that provides a 2-lane bridge, addresses the structural deficiencies, and provides continued access to local residents, businesses, and emergency services.

This project consists of replacing the existing corrugated plastic pipes with a precast reinforced concrete box culvert.  Additional proposed work includes approach pavement replacement, rock scour protection, and guide rail updates. The new culvert will provide two 10-foot lanes with 2-foot shoulders for a new roadway width of twenty feet.

The roadway at the bridge site will be closed to all traffic and detoured during construction and is expected to be closed for approximately one month. Beginning east of the project area, the vehicle detour will follow SR 171, SR 247, and SR 106 resulting in a twenty-mile vehicle detour.  Beginning west of the project area, the vehicle detour will follow SR 106, SR 247, and SR 171 resulting in a twenty-mile vehicle detour.

The project is currently in design and is planned to be let in September 2024. Construction work is anticipated to take place in the spring of 2025.

The plans display will be held in-person and online. The in-person plans display will be held at the Herrick Township Municipal Building, 1350 Lewis Lake Road, Union Dale, PA 18470 on March 16, 2023, at 7:00 p.m. The digital version of the plans display will be available from February 24, 2023, to March 31, 2023.
