Traffic Switch Planned on I-83 Over Tolna Road in Shrewsbury Township, York County

07/20/2023

Traffic will be moved from the right lanes to the left lanes

Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that a traffic switch is planned for this Sunday night at a bridge deck repair project on the northbound and southbound Interstate 83 bridges spanning Tolna Road (T-441) just south of Exit 4 (Route 851/Shrewsbury) in Shrewsbury Township, York County.

Currently, the left lanes are closed in both directions of the I-83 bridge. The right lanes are open. Weather permitting, during the night of Sunday, July 23, traffic will be switched from the right lanes to the left lanes using rolling stops. The right lanes will then be closed so repairs can be made.

The contractor will begin painting lines and moving barrier at 8:00 PM Sunday, but the switch will not be made until after midnight.

Motorists should be alert and drive with caution through the work zone.

This part of the work is expected to take about two weeks to complete, after which the bridges will be open to unrestricted traffic.

JD Eckman, Inc., of Atglen, PA, is the contractor for this work.
