09/21/2023

Crews to measure and examine deteriorated I-83 bridge beam for future repair project

Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that there will be a lane restriction tomorrow, Friday, September 22, on the eastbound side of Market Street (Route 462) at the southbound Interstate 83 bridge spanning the road in York County. Crews will be taking measurements and performing analysis of a steel beam on the I-83 bridge for a future repair project.

The beam was damaged several years ago by a vehicle strike. A recent bridge inspection revealed further deterioration to the beam.

A right lane restriction will be implemented on eastbound Market Street at approximately 10:00 AM tomorrow and will be in place for several hours. The restriction is expected to be lifted prior to the afternoon rush hour.

Currently, the ramp from Market Street to southbound I-83 is closed, as is the merge lane and shoulder on the southbound I-83 bridge. The off-ramp from southbound I-83 to Market Street is open.

A detour for the ramp from Market Street to southbound I-83 is in place using Belmont Street to southbound I-83.
