Lane Restriction Today on SB I-83 for Queen Street (Route 74) Bridge Repair in York County

12/21/2023

Crews to grind gouges from yesterday’s bridge strike; restriction will be in place on or soon after 9:00 AM

Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that a lane restriction will be in place starting this morning on southbound Interstate 83 so York County maintenance crews can grind out gouges from a bridge strike that occurred at the Queen Street Bridge (Route 74/Exit 16) yesterday afternoon.

The right lane of the southbound I-83 approach to Queen Street will be closed on or soon after 9:00 AM this morning. The lane restriction is expected to be in place until mid-afternoon.

This could cause backlogs and delays. Motorists should be alert and watch for stopped or slow-moving traffic.

The bridge was struck yesterday afternoon by scrap metal hauled by a truck heading south on I-83. The grinding is a precautionary measure to prevent future cracking or corrosion on the beam.
