Route 15 to be detoured April 19-22; work is part of pavement preservation project

Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that a weekend closure for northbound and southbound Route 15 in Adams County is scheduled for the weekend beginning Friday, April 19, so a pipe can be replaced just south of the Steinwehr Avenue Exit near Gettysburg.

Weather permitting, this work will be performed from 9:00 PM Friday, April 19, through 6:00 AM Monday, April 22. A detour will be in place.

Northbound traffic will exit at Welty Road in Maryland just south of the PA line then proceed north on Old Gettysburg Road/Emittsburg Road to Route 15 north of the closure. Southbound traffic should exit at the Steinwehr Avenue exit, then proceed south on Emittsburg Road/Old Gettysburg Road to Route 15 just south of the PA line. Flaggers will be on hand at Welty Road to assist traffic movement at the southern end of the detour route.

This work is part of a 14.8-mile pavement preservation project that includes diamond grinding, milling and overlaying ramps and shoulders, guide rail replacement, pipe replacement, and other miscellaneous activities on Route 15 in Freedom, Cumberland, Mounty Joy and Straban townships, Adams County.

New Enterprise Stone and Lime Company, Inc., of New Enterprise, PA, is the contractor on this $ 8,318,599 project. All work is expected to be completed by February 19, 2025.
