04/01/2024

Contractor to set beams on new Centerville Road bridge spanning Route 30

Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that the schedule has been updated for setting beams this week on the Centerville Road bridge being constructed over Route 30 in East Hempfield Township, Lancaster County. Work previously was scheduled for tomorrow (Tuesday) night through Friday night this week. However, due to the forecast for rain it is now scheduled for Thursday night through Saturday night, April 4-6.

Thursday, April 4, there will be lane closures on eastbound Route 30 starting at 8:00 PM to remove overhead deck formwork. Work will begin with a right lane closure then switch to a left lane closure. This work is expected to be completed by 6:00 AM Friday morning.

Friday, April 5, the southbound lane on Centerville Road and the right turn lane on the westbound Route 30 off-ramp will be closed starting at 7:00 PM. The left lane of eastbound Route 30 will close starting at 8:00 PM. Once the lane closures are in place, beams will be set on the eastbound side of the bridge, using rolling stops on Route 30 to perform this work. The rolling stops are expected to start between 8:30 PM and 9:00 PM and continue to approximately 2:00 AM.

Saturday, April 6, the southbound lane on Centerville Road and the right turn lane on the westbound Route 30 off-ramp will be closed starting at 7:00 PM. The left lane on westbound Route 30 will be closed starting at 8:00 PM. Once the lane closures are in place, beams will be set on the westbound side, using rolling stops on Route 30 to perform this work. The rolling stops are expected to start between 8:30 PM and 9:00 PM and continue to approximately 2:00 AM.

Night work will continue the following week with lane closures in both directions of Route 30 so deck pans and overhang form work can be installed. That work will be nightly from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM. The lanes will be closed depending on where the contractor is working on the bridge.

Motorists should be alert, drive with caution and watch for slow-moving traffic.

This work is part of the Centerville Road Interchange Improvement project, which consists of structure replacement, Superpave overlay, base replacement, roadway widening, milling, guiderail improvements, drainage improvements, pavement markings, ADA improvements, traffic signal improvements, and other miscellaneous construction.

The project includes work on Centerville Road from Cornerstone Drive to Marietta Avenue (Route 23), and Marietta Avenue from Centerville Road to Stony Battery Road. The project is primarily located in East Hempfield Township, though the section from Cornerstone Drive to Columbia Avenue is in Manor Township.

JD Eckman, Inc., of Atglen, PA is the prime contractor on this $36.3 million project. Work is expected to be completed by July 22, 2025.
