Route 2017 Section 570 Station Hill Road Over Norfolk Southern Railroad Project

Project Overview

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) invites the public to a public meeting and online plans display for the Route 2017 (Station Hill Road) over Norfolk Southern Railroad Project in Lathrop Township, Susquehanna County.

Route 2017 (Station Hill Road) is a two-lane rural road that carries traffic over the Norfolk Southern Railroad. The bridge is considered a contributing element to the National Register of Historic Places eligible railroad it crosses. Hop Bottom Borough is located approximately 0.5 miles north of the bridge.

The roadway and the bridge were closed to traffic in 2019 due to severe embankment erosion and a partially collapsed wingwall. The project proposes to remove the existing bridge without replacement and remediate the slope failure adjacent to Route 2017 (Station Hill Road). A six-mile detour is currently in place and will be used during project construction.

The project is currently in design and work is expected to occur during the 2027 construction season.
