​Route 267, Section 770, Bridge Project Over Meshoppen Creek

Project Overview

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) invites the public to a plans display regarding the Route 267, Section 770, Bridge Project over Meshoppen Creek. This plans display will be held online, and plans will be displayed for public viewing at the Meshoppen Borough building.

The purpose of this project is to provide safe, efficient, and unrestricted vehicular and pedestrian transportation on Route 267 (Bridge Street) across Meshoppen Creek.

The proposed project is located on Route 267 in Meshoppen Borough, Wyoming County. The project study area encompasses four roadways within Meshoppen Borough: Route 267 (Bridge St.), Route 267 (Oak St.), Route 6 (Main St.), and Canal St. as well as their intersections. The existing bridge, located on Route 267 (Bridge St), crosses the Meshoppen Creek and is currently deficient with an overall bridge rating of 4.  The following 4 alternatives are currently being evaluated: (1) rehabilitation of the exiting bridge with the goal of achieving an inspection rating of 7, (2) decommission the existing bridge and upgrade Canal St. to reroute Route 267 (Bridge St.) to Canal St., (3) decommission the existing bridge, upgrade Canal St. to reroute Route 267 (Bridge St.) to Canal St., and provide a pedestrian bridge over Meshoppen Creek (if justified by pedestrian numbers), and (4) replace the existing Route 267 (Bridge St.) bridge with a new two-span structure.

It is anticipated that construction will begin in the Spring of 2026 and will be completed by the Fall of 2027.

The plans display will be held online and will be available from December 8, 2023, to December 22, 2023. 

Traffic Control

Due to the nature of the structure repairs to the Route 267 (Bridge Street) bridge in Alternative 1, the bridge will be closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic while being rehabilitated. Alternative 4 will also require a temporary vehicular and pedestrian detour during construction of the bridge replacement. The 0.5-mile car and truck detour will use Oak Street, Canal Street, and Main St.

For the reconstruction of Canal Street, Alternatives 2 and 3, various traffic control options will be investigated. The first option includes keeping one direction open on Canal Street and detouring the opposite direction during construction. The second option temporarily closing Canal Street during construction and detouring traffic onto the existing Route 267 bridge. Trucks that cannot cross the Route 267 (Bridge Street) bridge will have a separate truck detour while vehicular and pedestrian traffic will remain on Route 267 (Bridge Street) until it's decommissioned. The 14.6-mile truck detour will use Oak Street, Rattlesnake Hill Road, Doolittle Hill Road, and Roosevelt Highway/Main Street.
