PennDOT Reminds Motorists About the Closure of Route 435 Southbound in Dunmore, Lackawanna County

11/20/2023

Dunmore, PA – PennDOT will be closing Exit 2 (Elmhurst) to Route 435 southbound from Interstate 84 eastbound in Dunmore beginning on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, to begin the reconfiguration of Exit 2 (Elmhurst) and construction of the Route 435 flyover ramp. Route 435 southbound will be closed through the fall of 2024. The detour can be found below.

PennDOT held a Public Meeting on January 23, 2017,  for the Interstate 84 Section 282 Bridge Replacement Project, located in Dunmore Borough and Roaring Brook Township, Lackawanna County.

PennDOT proposed the replacement of two bridges and create a right-hand exit to Route 435 southbound via a "flyover" structure spanning both directions of I-84. Additional work includes roadway reconstruction and construction of retaining walls to accommodate Route 435 grade adjustments. In addition, an abandoned railroad bridge previously operated by the Erie & Wyoming Railroad will be rehabilitated for use during construction and for future use in the Lackawanna County Trail Corridor.
