Indiana, PA - Motorists are advised that the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) and Bridging Pennsylvania Developers I (BPD-I) will soon begin pre-construction activities for the I-80 Canoe Creek Bridges project. The work is in preparation for the start of demolition and construction realignment on 2.5 miles of eastbound and westbound I-80 between exit 53 and the weigh station west of Huckleberry Ridge, as well as replacing  the I-80 Canoe Creek Bridges.

On Thursday, November 2, 2023, the construction contractor Bridging Pennsylvania Constructors (BPC) and Major Bridge Subcontractor, Kokosing Construction Company, Inc., will begin the first of four construction stages, with overall project completion anticipated in 2028.

Motorists can expect two lanes of traffic to be maintained in both directions at all times with the exception of limited lane closures, which will occur during off-peak hours. Beginning November 2, 2023, expect short term nightly left-lane closures to facilitate the installation of temporary pavement through November 16, 2023, with long-term median shoulder closures continuing through October 1, 2025.

On Tuesday, October 3, 2023, PennDOT, BPD-I and BPC hosted a virtual I-80 Canoe Creek Bridges Project Public Meeting to introduce key members of the BPC team and provide an update about specific pre-construction and anticipated upcoming construction activities, traffic plans and scheduling. This project is part of the ongoing PennDOT Major Bridges P3 Program. Bridging Pennsylvania Developers – I (BPD-I) is led jointly by Macquarie Capital and Shikun & Binui USA as Lead Project Developers and Equity Members. The Bridging Pennsylvania Constructors (BPC) joint venture (JV) consortium includes the design & construction expertise of S&B USA Construction (Pittsburgh, PA) and FCC Construction. S&B USA Construction is the construction arm of Shikun & Binui Ltd and is also the parent company of Fay, S&B USA Construction (Pittsburgh, PA), one of the four BPC Major Bridge subcontractors. Other Major Bridge subcontractors include the H&K Group (Skippack, PA), Kokosing Construction Company (Pittsburgh, PA), Wagman Heavy Civil (York, PA), and Lead Designer, Michael Baker International (Pittsburgh, PA).
